What shoes should I wear with this dress?

The dress is dark purple with a bit of mauve. It is sleeveless with straps and a cross over bust, then it is princess line with a knee/mid-calf length 'handkerchief' skirt. The event is a tail party (cricket club anniversary/reunion) but I suspect that some of the 'men' will show up in their cricket whites so I don't want to overdo it. I was thinking of strappy heels but wondered if I could get away with gold gladiator flats? Or have I totally missed the mark on both counts? Help me please or I'll be wearing runners!
