What Can I Wear to a upscale to semiformal Affair!?

I'm going to a party this weekend and the invite say dress code semi formal to upscale.I've been to event like this in the p only to feel over dress once I got there can you suggest something for me that if I was to go and was disappointed with the party and wants to go to the club and don't feel like i'm too over dress!please help!
