Can you avoid umbilical cord from twisting?

My friend just lost her baby (she was in her 6 month) and the cause was her umbilical cord was twisted (her baby moved around so much) & so the baby stopped receiving oxygen at some point. she had her regular check up with the doctor but it still happend. Is there a way to prevent it?
